Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has sold over 2.5 million copies within the first 24 hours of its launch, making it the fastest-selling game in PS Studios history.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 finally launched last week on October 20 and has garnered critical acclaim, with many praising the game for its visuals, storyline, and larger-than-life boss battles. The game has now accomplished yet another feat by becoming the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios title in the first 24 hours of its launch.
According to Sony, the game has sold more than 2.5 million copies just after 24 hours of its launch. Notably, these sales happened on the PS5 system alone because the game isn’t multi-platform, and is exclusive to the PS5 console.
In doing so, this third instalment in the Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise, developed by Insomniac Games, has beaten the earlier record held by God of War Ragnarok, which sold 5.1 million copies in the first week since launch.
The game is a direct sequel to 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man and 2020’s Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and serves as the next chapter in Peter and Miles’ storyline. It features antagonists—including Venom, Lizard, Kraven the Hunter, and Sandman.
“Insomniac Games holds itself to incredibly high standards when it comes to delivering engaging and innovative gameplay experiences,” said Eric Lempel, SVP, Global Marketing, Sales, and Business Operations, Sony Interactive Entertainment.
“Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is Insomniac Games’ third installment in the franchise for PlayStation. Built from the ground up to take advantage of the unique features of PlayStation 5, the goal was to massively build off the action, storylines, and features from the first two games,” he added.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 retails for Rs 4,999 in India and is available both digitally and as physical release.
