MANGALURU: The city police commissioner has suspended a PSI of Women’s Police Station, pending inquiry on charges of faulty investigations in connection with a Pocso case and five more staff from the Women’s Police Station for consuming alcohol and partying inside the police station.
City police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said that the PSI Rosamma has been suspended for gross negligence in a case booked under the Pocso Act, where the accused is a head constable. In July last year, a head constable was arrested for misbehaving with a minor victim.
In another incident, five staff from the same police station have been suspended for consuming alcohol and partying inside the police station. There is clear evidence and the action has been taken based on CCTV footage and an inquiry report submitted by DCP Hariram Shankar and ACP South subdivision Ranjith Bandaru, said Shashi Kumar. Two ASIs, two HCs and a PC have been suspended, he added.
The action was taken after an elaborate inquiry was conducted by ACP South subdivision Ranjith Bandaru and ACP central subdivision PA Hegde. A decision has been taken after seeking the opinion of DCP Harirm Shankar, Kumar noted.
Meanwhile, on videos of a police inspector and staff dancing going viral, the commissioner clarified that during dasara celebrations, all the officers and staff along with performing teams had taken part and performed. This incident has no connection with the alcohol party and no action has been initiated in the Dasara case, he clarified.
