Man, His Wife Rob Their 80-yr-old Aunt, Both Held | Rajkot News – Times of India

Rajkot: A man and his wife were arrested on Saturday by Mithapur police for allegedly robbing their 80-year-old aunt in Arambhda village of Okha Mandal taluka in Devbhumi Dwarka district on Tuesday.
The accused Hira Chanpa and his wife Kirti were arrested from their house near Nanavati Chowk in Rajkot. They had robbed their aunt Raiben Chanpa of jewellery worth Rs 1.08 lakh.
According to police, Hira and his wife had shifted to Rajkot a few months ago but used to go to their native place to take care of their aunt Raiben.
A police complaint registered by Raiben stated that two persons with their faces covered entered her house on Tuesday midnight and tied her hands and legs. The duo threw chilly powder in Raiben’s eyes and stole the jewellery that she was wearing. Hira and his wife were in the village when Raiben was robbed. They had told the police that they tried to chase the robbers but could not catch them.
However, police suspected the couple and questioned them at length. During interrogation, the duo admitted to committing the offence, said police, adding that a portion of looted jewellery was recovered while some of the ornaments were sold off for cash by the accused. The accused also told police that they decided to rob their aunt as they were in need of money, however, it was not clear why they wanted the money.
