The exercise for the Third Front has started in the country for the next year’s Lok Sabha elections. In this episode, the Chief Minister of West Bengal and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee has got involved loudly. Three days back he had met Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh. After this he has turned to Odisha. Mamta will meet Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday. Before this Mamta will go to Jagannath Puri. They will worship there.

Mamta’s visit to Odisha is being seen as a strategy to strengthen the opposition alliance in view of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. However, he has decided to distance himself from the Congress. Right now only SP and TMC have come together in this. It is believed that Biju Janata Dal chief Naveen Patnaik may also join the alliance of opposition parties.

Mamta Banerjee is running a Third Front campaign against the BJP and the Congress in view of the Lok Sabha elections.  It is believed that Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik may also join it.

Mamta-Akhilesh formed a new front
Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee last Friday. Akhilesh said that SP will stand firmly with TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee to defeat the saffron camp.

Why Mamta distanced herself from Congress
The Bengal CM was speaking in the context of the results of the Tripura Assembly elections on 2 March. Mamta said- Those who are voting for CPI(M) and Congress, are actually voting for BJP only. Mamta does not want to be a part of UPA
This is not the first time that TMC has made scathing comments on Congress. At one time Mamta Banerjee has even said that what is UPA, now there is no UPA. We need a strong alternative. This statement was made by Mamta during her meeting with NCP Chief Sharad Pawar in Mumbai last year.

The TMC MP said that it is a fallacy to think that the Congress is the ‘Big Boss’ of the opposition. Mamta Banerjee will meet Naveen Patnaik on 23 March. We will also talk to other opposition parties to distance themselves from both BJP and Congress. He said that we are not saying that this is the third front, but the regional parties have the power to counter the BJP.
