Maharasthra: 31 Out Of 54 Omicron Patients Discharged, No Fresh Case Reported

New Delhi: Around 31 patients out of 54 infected with the new variant Omicron in Maharashtra have been discharged from hospitals.

The state didn’t report any fresh case of Omicron on Monday keeping the newly discovered strain’s tally unchanged at 54, according to the health department official sources of the news agency PTI. Of these, the highest 22 cases infected with Omicron, classified as a ‘variant of concern’ by the WHO, were from Mumbai.

The patients have been discharged from hospitals after their RT-PCR test reports came negative, according to the health department. The state has witnessed around 1,36,400 travellers arriving from overseas since December 1, including 20,105 from ‘at-risk’ countries, at airports, it said.

Of these, 23,015 travellers have gone through RT-PCR tests and samples of 115 COVID-19 positive passengers, including 86 from ‘at-risk’ countries, have been sent for genome sequencing to ascertain if they are infected with Omicron, the department added.

Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Monday informed that 161 Omicron cases had been detected in India and the government had arranged a buffer stock of important medicines to overcome the shortage of essential drugs.

Addressing the Rajya Sabha, Mansukh Mandaviya said the country’s vaccine manufacturing capacity would be increased to 45 crore doses per month in the next two months.

India reported 6,563 fresh Covid-19 cases on Monday, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare taking the total cases in the country since the beginning of the pandemic to 3,47,46,838. India’s active caseload currently stands at 82,267, the lowest in 571 days.
