Pradeep Kurulkar was the director of a DRDO lab in Pune. He was arrested on 3 May under the Official Secrets Act.
Maharashtra’s anti-terrorist squad has filed a charge sheet against DRDO scientist Pradeep Kurulkar in a Pune court. The scientist is alleged to have informed the Pakistani agent about several defense projects including the Indian missile system.
Pradeep Kurulkar was the director of a DRDO lab in Pune. He was arrested on 3 May under the Official Secrets Act. At present, he is in judicial custody.
Girl framed scientist by sending obscene video
According to the chart sheet, Pradeep used to talk to a girl through WhatsApp, voice and video calls. The girl used to give her name as Zara Dasgupta and introduced herself as a software engineer working in UK.
The girl befriended the scientist by sending obscene messages and videos. During the ATS investigation, the IP address of the girl was traced to Pakistan. She was actually an agent of Pakistani intelligence agency.
After his arrest, Pradeep Kurulkar was taken to the ATS office in Pune for questioning.
Shared many sensitive information including BrahMos and Agni
According to the chartsheet, the Pakistani agent tried to get sensitive information from Pradeep, including BrahMos missile launchers, drones, UCVs, Agni missile launchers and military bridging systems.
Pradeep had shared DRDO’s secret information with the girl after collecting it in his personal phone. He also told the girl about his personal and official tours.
They were in talks with each other from June to December last year. On suspicion of Pradeep, DRDO had started an internal inquiry against him. Even before this, Pradeep had blocked the girl’s number in February 2023.
Scientist worked on many big projects
According to media reports, Kurulkar has worked on several DRDO projects. His profile is that of Team Leader & Lead Designer. He has been instrumental in the successful design and development of several equipment, including missile launchers. Apart from this, Kurulkar has designed and developed many systems like MRSAM, Nirbhay Subsonic Cruise Missile, QRSAM, XRSAM.
