Maha Shivratri 2022: Ujjain To Light Up 21 Lakh Diyas, Guinness World Record Team Reaches City

Ujjain News: The ‘Shiv Jyoti Arpanam’ festival is being organised on March 1 on the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivratri in Ujjain, the city of Lord Shri Mahakaleshwar in Madhya Pradesh. For this festival, lamps will be lit up on along the banks of River Kshipra, at places of worship, temples and houses in the city. A target of lighting 21 lakh lamps has been set for the occasion.

State Higher Education Minister Dr Mohan Yadav said that the event is being organised on the call of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. There will be participation from all sections of society.

13 lakh lamps will be lit on both sides of the banks of river Kshipra. More than 17,000 volunteers have registered for the event. Representatives of various voluntary organizations, students, sportspersons, business and social organizations will participate in the celebration. Along with this, the Guinness World Records team has also reached Ujjain.  Last year, a record was set by lighting up 9.41 lakh lamps in Ayodhya.

Along with this, the festival is being organised by having another objective of ‘Zero Waste’. After the festival, diyas (earthen lamps) will be used for home composting and further making of clay pots and bowls etc. After the programme, the remaining oil will be used in ‘Gaushalas’ etc. Empty bottles of oil will be reused through the 3-R, that is Reduce, Reuse and Recycle process. Paper matchboxes will be used to burn candles.
