Maha Drama Ends With A Surprise Role Reversal: Eknath Shinde Is CM, Fadnavis His Deputy

A twist in the tale was in store on a day of fast-paced developments as the Maharashtra political turmoil came to an end with Eknath Shinde, whose revolt within Shiv Sena led to the collapse of the MVA government, taking oath as the 20th Chief Minister of the state. In a surprise move, Fadnavis, who earlier announced that he would be out of the new government, changed his stand and was sworn in as the deputy CM following directives from the BJP central leadership.

Everyone had expected Fadnavis to become the CM again with the support of the Shinde-led group. BJP has 106 MLAs in the Assembly while Shinde has claimed the support of 50 MLAs, inlcuding independents.

The oath-taking ceremony came a day after Uddhav Thackeray resigned as CM, leading to the collapse of the 31-month-old Maha Vikas Aghadi government, which also comprised of NCP and Congress.
