LUDHIANA : With 29,021 volunteers joining hands with the administration in the fight against drug abuse, the Drug Abuse Prevention Officer (DAPO) program has proved to be a big hit in curbing the drug menace from the district.
As per details, there are total 29,021 volunteers including 8,491 in Ludhiana East tehsil, highest by any sub-division so far, 6,301 in Ludhiana West, 1,230 in Raikot, 3,065 in Samrala, 4,302 in Samrala. Anklets, 3,332 inches Food, and 2,300 in Jagraons have volunteered to campaign, mobilizing them to eliminate drugs from the state.
Giving more details, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma He said that under the campaign, concerted efforts have been made against drugs by motivating people to participate in this campaign.
He said that public awareness campaigns have been conducted at village and ward level to make people aware about this menace, for which DAPOs are providing a great service as drug addicts are being identified by them. He said that since the police has already stopped the supply of narcotics and the need of the hour is to curb its demand by detoxification of the addicts.
He emphasized that the DAPO program is the first of its kind initiative Captain Amarinder The Singh-led state government will check the demand for medicines through massive mobilization. He claimed that this initiative has ensured maximum public participation in the form of DAPOs to tackle the menace.
The Deputy Commissioner envisioned that the DAPOs are acting as a catalyst in turning Ludhiana into a drug free district.
He also said that 2,442 intoxication Roko Nigran committees are already playing a vital role in eradicating drug abuse from the district at the grassroots level. He said that there are people in these NRNCs who are full of enthusiasm to eliminate drugs from their area.
He said that the work of drug free society cannot be accomplished without active support and cooperation of the people and called upon the people to be a part of the programme.
