Growing up in Bal Sikandar, a small village in Amritsar, Punjab, Lovepreet Singh won a bronze medal in the 109 kg weight category in weightlifting during the ongoing Commonwealth Games in England. Lovepreet lifted 163 kg in snatch and 192 kg in clean and jerk. He secured the third position by lifting a total of 355 KG weight. However, the journey to reach this bronze medal was not easy for Lovepreet.

After his son Lovepreet won the bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games, his father Kirpal Singh sweetened the people in Bal Sikander village of Amritsar.

Childhood spent in raw house
Lovepreet Singh may have won a medal in the 109 kg weight category, but he was never so heavy-weight. Lovepreet, who looked slim as a child, was mostly calm. Lovepreet’s father Kirpal Singh still works as a tailor. Kirpal Singh tells that Lovepreet’s entire childhood was spent in a kutcha house. Lovepreet’s grandfather Gurmez Singh used to sell vegetables on the handcart. Lovepreet also went to sell vegetables with Dada as soon as he came from school.

Grandmother Jasbir Kaur, who was not satisfied with the success of her grandson, said – Lovepreet was so naive that she never called any work big or small. He also used to take horses to people’s weddings. His grandson’s luck took a turn when he passed the Navy exam.

Started weight lifting in 8th
Lovepreet’s sister Manpreet Kaur told that her brother studied in a government school located in Rajasansi, Amritsar. When Lovepreet was in 8th standard, Heera Singh, a weight lifting coach living in the village, got her started weight lifting. Lovepreet, who did 12th from DAV Senior Secondary School, continued to do weightlifting there too. He won many medals during his schooling. After 12th Lovepreet gave Navy exam and got selected.

After the victory, the celebration was shown to the mother on a video call

Manpreet Kaur told that Lovepreet is away from home for the last 6 years. Earlier his training was going on in Patiala. In between, he used to visit the house but in the last one year he did not come home even once. It is only possible to talk on the phone. Lovepreet’s mother Sukhwinder Kaur told that before going to England for the Commonwealth Games, Lovepreet had called her and asked her to pray in front of the gurus. He prayed to Waheguru for the son.

After winning the bronze medal in England on Wednesday, Lovepreet made a video call to her mother Sukhwinder Kaur and showed the celebrations being celebrated there.

The family’s hard work is complete, now there is hope from the government

Brother Harpreet Singh said- His entire family has worked very hard with Lovepreet from his childhood till winning this medal. After hard work, Lovepreet has reached this point today. Now it becomes the responsibility of the government to give him a good job and reward, so that seeing him, the rest of the youth of Punjab are also motivated to go towards the games.

Lovepreet Singh is an officer in the Indian Navy. She was born on 6 September 1997 in Bal Sikandar village of Amritsar. Lovepreet, who started weightlifting in 2010 at the age of just 13, struggled a lot to make a mark at the national level in the initial days. He worked hard for 7 years to join the national camp related to weight lifting. Since the year 2017, Lovepreet is an important member of the Indian National Camp in the heavy weight category. He is currently an officer in the Indian Navy.
