Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate earns France call-up, replaces injured Manchester United’s Raphael Varane

Manchester United’s Raphael Varane has suffered muscular pain in his left thigh and will miss France’s next three matches – Croatia (home and away) and Austria (away).

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has earned his maiden call-up to France’s senior squad, replacing Manchester United’s Raphael Varane in the Nations League squad.

The 29-year-old Varane has suffered muscular pain in his left thigh, the French football federation said in a statement on Saturday.

The Manchester United star, who “underwent tests” on Saturday, will miss France’s next three matches against Croatia on June 6 (away) and June 13 (home) and Austria on June 10 (away).

Konate will join the group as soon as possible and will be present in Split on Sunday for training ahead of the match against Croatia on June 6.

France had lost 1-2 to Denmark in Friday’s Nations League Group A1 clash. The world champions France won the National League in 2021 after defeating Spain in the final.
