Lioness has tested positive for COVID in Sri Lanka zoo.

Sri Lanka’s State Veterinary Surgeons Association said days after a lion at Colombo’s Dehiwala Zoo tested positive for Covid-19, a lioness from the same facility has also been infected with the virus.

The secretary of the State Veterinary Surgeons Association, Nuwan Hewagamge, said on Thursday that 12-year-old lioness ‘Sheena’ had tested positive for the virus following medical tests conducted last week after a male lion named ‘Thor’ was infected, news Agency Xinhua reports.

The 11-year-old ‘Thor’, who was gifted by a zoo in Seoul in 2013, has become the first known case of an animal being infected in the island nation.

Health experts said that he, however, recovered after medical treatment.

The Guardians of Thor were requested to quarantine for two weeks.

According to officials, all the staff members of Dehiwala Zoological Garden were tested for COVID-19 on June 18.
