Two accused are residents of Ahmedabad and one accused is from Jodhpur.

Ahmedabad’s sessions court has sentenced three convicts to life imprisonment for spying for Pakistan. Ahmedabad Crime Branch had arrested Sirajuddin Ali Fakir, Mohammad Ayub and Naushad Ali in 2012. Then Sirajuddin was 24, while Ayub and Naushad were 23-23 years old.

All three used to send secret information of the Indian Army to Pakistan’s Intelligence Agency (ISI). Two of the three accused are residents of Jamalpur in Ahmedabad and Naushad Ali from Jodhpur in Rajasthan.

The court of Additional Sessions Judge Ambalal Patel rejected the public prosecutor’s appeal for capital punishment and said that the crime of the three does not fall in the rarest of rare category. The court noted that all three lived in India, but their love and patriotism was for Pakistan.

14 years rigorous imprisonment
The court sentenced the trio to life imprisonment under sections 121, 121 (A) and 120 (B) of the IPC and section 66 (F) of the IT Act. Also sentenced to 14 years’ rigorous imprisonment under Section 3 of the Official Secrets Act and 10 years’ imprisonment under Section 123 of the IPC. All the sentences will run concurrently.

Met ISI agent in Karachi
Public prosecutor Bharat Patni said that in this case, the court questioned a total of 75 witnesses. According to the Crime Branch investigation, the accused Sirajuddin, a resident of Jamalpur in Ahmedabad, had gone to Karachi in Pakistan in 2007, where he met an ISI agent named Taimoor. After this he had joined Mohammad Ayub with him. Whereas, Naushad Ali of Rajasthan reached Pakistan in 2009, where he met ISI agent Tahir.

Used to save messages in e-mail drafts
The crime branch said in its charge sheet that the three were sent kapoor201111@yahoo.com and nandkeshwar@yahoo.com to send their messages to Pakistan. com. Two fake IDs of the name and their passwords were given. The accused used to save their messages in drafts in these mails. On the other hand, the agents of Pak intelligence agency used to open the mail and take out the draft message.

Money used to come from Saudi
Crime Branch investigation had revealed that the accused Sirajuddin Fakir, Mohammad Ayub, Naushad Ali used to send maps of Indian posts on the border, besides many important information related to the Indian Army.

The accused used to collect information including army movement, maps by racking military camps in Jodhpur, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Kutch in Rajasthan. In lieu of espionage, money was sent to them through a Saudi agent.
