Apple may have worked on an Apple Watch Ultra in black, with a plastic action button to reduce costs.

It has been only a few months since the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and the Series 9 were released alongside the iPhone 15 series, but now, a recent leak from tipster ParrotSWD on X (formerly Twitter) suggests that Apple may have worked on an Apple Watch Ultra in black, with a plastic action button to reduce costs.

According to his post on X based on FCC filings, the alleged black Apple Watch Ultra has a design that looks reminiscent of the existing Apple Watch Ultra 2 and the original Apple Watch Ultra. However, there are three things that stand out: First, the action buttons look to be made of a different material, possibly plastic. Second, the Watch has a space black-like finish, similar to the new MacBook Pro 14″ and 16″. Reports suggest that the plastic button could be there to reduce the overall cost of the watch, but until Apple ever released one, we won’t ever know.

And finally, the Watch, in the images, features a darker ceramic finish which reminds you of the darker bottom finish of the Apple Watch Series models, and is unlike the current Apple Watch Ultra models which get a beige/cream ceramic finish on the bottom of the watch.

The tipster notes that the images revealed by the FCC are of a prototype, but it is unclear if Apple is currently developing or has already abandoned the project.

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 (second generation) is currently only available in a single color—titanium—and a single case size—49 mm. It retails for ₹89,900 in the Indian market and comes with a variety of band options, including the Alpine Loop, Trail Loop, and Ocean Band.
