A landslide occurred on Monday at Garbadhar on the Tawaghat-Lipulekh National Highway in Uttarakhand. There is no information about any casualty in the incident. Garbadhar is on the road connecting Dharchula to the China border in Pithoragarh district. It is reported that due to the closure of this road, a group of pilgrims going on Adi Kailash Yatra got stuck. The local administration is on alert mode due to the landslide.

The road at Garbadhar was closed for the last four days due to a landslide, the Border Roads Organization was trying to open it. The road was opened on Monday, but after a while there was a fierce landslide here.

The movement of passengers and other vehicles of the third and fourth batch of Adi Kailash was about to start when the road opened for some time on Monday. But suddenly the hill cracked. Along with the mountain in the landslide, the road built there also fell. The Tawaghat-Lipulekh motorway was closed due to heavy debris. The state receives heavy rains every year and such incidents are a common occurrence.

District Magistrate Mayur Dixit was quoted as saying that all the passengers crossing the highway were stopped and sent to a safer place. Vehicular movement will resume on the highway after the roads are cleared of debris, the official said.

42 passengers were rescued
The state disaster agency had earlier rescued 42 Adi Kailash pilgrims who were stranded near Tawaghat while returning from the pilgrimage after the road was closed due to heavy rains. An official said the pilgrims were mainly from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi.

Fifty villagers of Beas Valley were also rescued with the help of helicopters after being stranded for four days in Gunji due to heavy rains.
