Kudmi agitation ended after 122 hours, rail service between Kharagpur-Tata and Purulia restored, SER issued bulletin – Rail Hunt

JAMSHEDPUR. After 24 hours of struggle, the rail roko movement called by the tribal Kudmi community on Sunday 25 September 2022 at 7.10 am ended on the sixth day. The Kudmi leaders left the railway track at Kustaur in Adra Railway Division at 7.10 am. In this way the train operation between Tata-Purulia was restored. Railways first flagged off 08015 MEMU train from Kustaur to Kharagpur. On the other hand, the South Eastern Railway Administration has also released the list of trains to be dispatched, confirming the end of the agitation.

On the other hand, in Khelamushali of Kharagpur division, the agitators got up from the railway track at seven in the morning. Rail roko movement was being run in Kustaur under the leadership of Kudmi leader Ajit Mahto. Railway has issued information about the agitators ending the agitation in both the stations and starting train operations.

Manish Pathak, Senior Commercial Manager of Chakradharpur Railway Division has also informed about the commencement of rail operations in a statement issued. After the end of the Kudmi movement, the South Eastern Railway administration has started normalizing the operation of trains. On September 20, at five o’clock in the morning, the Kudmi leaders blocked the rail track demanding ST status for the society. After that, operations on Howrah-Tata rail route and Purulia rail section came to a standstill. More than 20 lakh passengers were upset due to the rail traffic being affected. Railways have also suffered a lot due to this movement.

Although the leaders associated with the Kudmi movement had agreed to start rail operations on Saturday afternoon, the leaders failed to instill this confidence in their other supporters, so the movement could not end formally. This increased the difficulties of the administration. Finally, at around seven o’clock on Sunday morning, the agitators accepted the condition of the government. After which rail operations could start between Tata-Purulia and Kharagpur-Tata in West Bengal after about 122 hours.
