THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Nine more Omicron cases have been reported in the state, taking the total cases to 24.
Among the nine cases reported, six are in Ernakulam and three are in Thiruvananthapuram. Two people who came from the UK, two from Tanzania and one each from Ghana and Ireland have tested positive for Omicron in Ernakulam. Two people who came from Nigeria and one from the UK have tested positive in Thiruvananthapuram.
All six who had reached the airport in Ernakulam tested positive in the tests conducted at the airport itself. Hence they were isolated in the hospitals directly from the airport. As a result, no one came into direct contact with these people.
However, the two people (husband and wife), who had come from Nigeria to Thiruvananthapuram on December 10, tested positive only on December 17. The couple’s two children are on the contact list and have also been isolated. The third person, who came from the UK, tested positive at the airport itself and was isolated directly to the hospital from the airport. As a result, no person is on the contact list of this 51-year-old woman.
3,205 new Covid positive cases
Meanwhile, the state witnessed 3,205 new Covid cases of the 56,388 samples tested in the last 24 hours. Among the new cases, 2,767 people were eligible for vaccination, 1,664 were fully vaccinated, and 860 have taken even a single dose.
With 36 more deaths in the past few days being recorded as Covid deaths and 347 deaths added from the appeals received, the Covid death toll in the state has climbed to 45,538.
The total active cases at present are 27,842, of which 8.8% of people are admitted either in hospitals or other treatment centres. At the same time, 3,012 have recovered from the disease.
Among the new cases, 3,036 cases have been infected through local spread.
