Liquor will be sold in New Delhi from August 1 under the old liquor policy.

Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia has announced that the old liquor policy will be implemented in the capital from August 1. He said in a press conference – The Central Government has made the entry of CBI in this policy, due to which no one is ready to take the contract. So we will not implement the new system.

BJP’s goal to sell illegal liquor
The Deputy CM said that with the new excise policy, corruption of BJP would have ended and revenue of 9,500 crores would have come in a year. Presently 468 shops are running in Delhi. The motive of BJP is that illegal liquor is sold in Delhi.

Lt Governor gave instructions for CBI investigation
The Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Delhi had given instructions for a CBI inquiry regarding the tender that came out after the new liquor policy. The LG office said that Sisodia’s role is under investigation due to willful lapses, which led to illegal gains of Rs 144 crore in tenders for liquor license holders for 2021-22.

Following the report of Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar on the new excise policy, the Lt Governor had recommended a CBI inquiry.

Allegations of violation of these rules in the new liquor policy

  • The report had written about violation of GNCTD Act 1991, Transaction of Business Rules (TOBR) 1993, Delhi Excise Act 2009 and Delhi Excise Rules 2010.
  • It has also been said that due to this kindness to the liquor mafia, there was a huge loss to the exchequer.

When did the new liquor policy come in Delhi?
In May 2020, the Delhi government brought a new liquor policy in the assembly, which was implemented from November 2021. The government had given 4 major arguments behind implementing the new liquor policy.

  • To increase the revenue of Delhi Government.
  • Redressal of grievances of people buying liquor.
  • There will be equal distribution of liquor shops in every ward.
