Kareena was supposed to star in Rockstar?
Director Imtiaz Ali wanted to cast Kareena Kapoor Khan in Ranbir Kapoor-led Rockstar.
Ranbir Kapoor-led Rockstar is touted by many as one of Imtiaz Ali’s most prominent films. Besides its gripping storyline and Ranbir Kapoor‘s stellar performance, another memorable aspect of the film is that it marked Nargis Fakhri’s Bollywood debut. However, as per reports, it was Ranbir’s cousin Kareena Kapoor Khan who has Imtiaz Ali’s first choice.
Imtiaz Ali was quite impressed by Kareena’s performance in Jab We Met and wanted to cast her in Rockstar, as per reports. However, since he had already signed Ranbir Kapoor as the lead, his cousin could not be cast to romance him. Thus, Nargis Fakhri bagged the role. Pinkvilla mentioned in their report that Kareena was heartbroken by this development.
Earlier, Ranbir Kapoor had told the Hindustan Times, “She’s hardworking, passionate and has had the opportunity to work with many good directors, including Imtiaz. It’s unfortunate that since we are related by blood, we couldn’t act together.”
Meanwhile, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is teaming up with Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal and Alia Bhatt for a new film titled Love and War. The film reunites Sanjay and Ranbir after 17 years. The film is slated to release on Christmas 2025.
A source close to the development told Pinkvilla, “Love And War is essentially a love triangle with war in its backdrop. Ranbir’s performance in Animal blew SLB’s mind away. While Love And War is an action love story on the face of it, the inter-character dynamic holds key importance. While Alia and Vicky’s part have their own share of challenges in terms of performances, SLB over the years was looking to find a face for the role that Ranbir is doing at the moment.”
As for Kareena Kapoor Khan, she will soon be seen in The Crew, alongside Kriti Sanon and Tabu. It is said to be a heist film and is scheduled to be released on March 9 this year.
