Kalyan: Candidate with less votes wins Congress youth president poll | Thane News – Times of India

KALYAN: The Congress’ Kalyan district youth president election results took everyone by surprise after the candidate who got lesser votes was declared the winner.
Last year between November and December, Congress held district youth presidents elections across the state, including Kalyan. In the election, two candidates from Kalyan — Manish Desale and Anil Patil contested for the post.
However, when the results were declared on Monday, candidate Manish Desale got 1,174 votes against Anil Patil who secured 7,964 votes. However, Desale was declared a winner for the post.
Congress’s Kalyan district president Sachin Pote said, “As per party’s norms only candidates, aged up to 35 years, can contest youth election in Congress party and since Patil is above aged 35, he is not eligible for the post. Desale this wins the election being below 35.”
Sources said that to win the election, Patil enrolled several youths into the party and everyone was speculating that Patil may win the election. When results were declared on Monday, Patil secured the highest votes as per prediction but Desale was declared the winner.
Meanwhile, Patil blamed that some party leaders in the city did not want the growth of the party due to which they got him defeated.
Patil asked if his age does not fall in the category of youth president post, then how he was declared a candidate in the election and voting happened.
