Ranchi: Jharkhand Police Men’s Association (JPMA) has postponed its phase-wise agitation for service benefits after chief minister Hemant Soren assured them that he would take a decision on their list of demands soon. “An emergency meeting of JPMA was held on Thursday evening where it was decided to withdraw the agitation. We thank the state government and hope that our demands would be met soon,” JPMA president Rakesh Pandey said.
Pandey said the CM had talks with a delegation of JPMA where the latter said that he was aware of their demands and he would soon make an announcement in this regard.
Pandey further said that the CM’s principal secretary, Rajiv Arun Ekkainformed them that steps have been initiated for fulfilment of the reasonable demands. “The principal secretary also appealed to us to withdraw our present agitation,” he added.
The police officials had begun a three-day agitation from Wednesday to press the government for their demands, which include restoration of the 20-day compensatory leave, removal of anomalies in payment of 13 months’ salary, elimination of defects in the order related to assured career progression and modified assured career progression, restoration of old pension scheme for personnel appointed after 2004 and eight hour duty a day.
The officials wore black ribbons on their sleeves while performing their duty on Wednesday and Thursday to highlight their demands. Their family members also wore black badges in public.
