J’khand Crisis: CM Soren, MLAs Go For Ride Amid Poaching Fear, Marathon Meets Later | 5 Points

Amid the growing uncertainty over the fate of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren as an MLA over a mining lease case, the ruling United Progressive Alliance is considering shifting MLAs to a “friendly state” to prevent poaching bid by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

According to reports, Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais is likely to send the disqualification order of CM Soren to the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday.

Here are the top five developments of the day:

  • Three buses carrying CM Hemant Soren and ruling coalition MLAs returned to the chief minister’s residence in Ranchi from a guest house near Latratu dam in Khunti district of Jharkhand.
  • The Congress Legislative Party held a meeting after the MLAs returned to Ranchi from Khunti district to discuss the next course of action . “All MLAs and ministers have only gathered to discuss the political activities that have went down in past few days. We’re here to discuss the matter and reach some conclusion on it,” news agency ANI quoted Avinash Pande, state Congress in-charge, as saying.
  • As per reports, Jharkhand governor Ramesh Bais will not be sending the order to ECI on CM Soren’s disqualification before Monday. Earlier, the ECI had sent its opinion to the Governor recommending the disqualification of the Chief Minister. As per reports, CM Soren had not been banned from contesting elections.
  • Earlier in the day, CM Soren, along with his MLAs and ministers arrived at a guest house near Latratu dam in Khunti district of Jharkhand, after their departure from Ranchi. Heavy police force was deployed in the area. CM Soren’s brother and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MLA Basant Soren speaking with ABP News said, “We feel we are going on picnic. There is no threat, the government is stable,” without disclosing where the buses were headed.
  • Amid the political uncertainty in Jharkhand, the Chief Minister called for a third meeting of UPA MLAs earlier on Saturday at his Ranchi residence for the second day in a row. Later, CM Soren, along with the ruling legislators, were seen leaving for some unknown destination on three volvo buses from Ranchi.
