Jharkhand: Opium worth over Rs 5 crore seized in Hazaribagh, cash worth Rs 13 lakh also recovered

Police have seized a huge amount of opium from a house in Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand. Its value in the international market has been estimated at more than five crore rupees. The police had received information that a large quantity of narcotics was stored in the house of Kameshwar Saav. After this, the action was executed by forming a team.

Superintendent of Police Manoj Ratan Chothe said the team raided Sao’s house on Sunday and recovered 19,400 kg of opium hidden in a plastic bucket and Rs 13 lakh in cash hidden in a steel box in another room. The SP claimed that this is the biggest ever haul of opium and cash by the Hazaribagh police.

The SP said that the police registered a case against Kameshwar Sao’s wife Rudni Devi, her husband Kameshwar Sao and son-in-law Giani Sao, a resident of Hapua village in Chatra district, and arrested him. The arrested woman told the police that the opium was kept there by her son-in-law, Giani Sav. Giani and Kameshwar Saav are absconding. The SP said that the search operation and raids are going on for Gyanti and Kameshwar Sao in Chatra and Hazaribagh districts.
