Jharkhand: On suspicion of witchcraft, the nephew of a tribal woman murdered with a sharp weapon, police engaged in investigation

A 45-year-old tribal woman was allegedly murdered by her nephew on suspicion of witchcraft in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district. The police gave this information on Wednesday.

He said that his body was found in Gangimundi forest of Manjhari police station area, in which there were many injuries. The woman’s husband told the police that she had gone to the forest to collect mushrooms on Sunday but did not return home.

‘Used to threaten woman by claiming black magic’
The husband told the police that his nephew used to threaten him, claiming to be doing black magic. Police said that he was murdered with sharp weapons.

He said that the body has been sent for post-mortem and search is on to trace the people behind the incident.

Murder on suspicion of witchcraft is a major social evil in the state. According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), a total of 590 people, mostly women, were killed between 2001 and 2020.
