Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s trouble in the mining lease case is not ending. CM Soren will appear before the Election Commission in person or through a lawyer today. The Election Commission has already sent him several notices. After which they are facing the threat of action and disqualification.

After May 31, the Election Commission had given the date of June 14.
Hemant Soren was earlier asked to appear before the Election Commission on May 31 but had sought more time and his appearance was rescheduled for June 14. Soren had again sought more time to appear before the Election Commission citing unavailability of his lawyer due to medical reasons. In May, the commission had issued notice to Soren under Section 9A of the Representation of the People Act, which deals with disqualification of an MLA for government contracts.

This was the second time that the personal hearing in his case was adjourned, so a new date of June 28 was given with the condition that this would be the last time for such a hearing. Failing to do so, the commission will proceed on the basis of written submissions filed by them before the next date of hearing, which is June 28, an official said.
