Jharkhand: Five extremists including self-styled area commander of TSPC arrested, weapons recovered

Five extremists, including the self-styled area commander of the banned Third Conference Presentation Committee (TSPC), have been arrested in Jharkhand’s Palamu district. Superintendent of Police Chandan Kumar Sinha said that TSPC’s self-styled area commander Basant Singh alias Bachchan alias Diwakar ji was arrested from Duruha Hill in Palamu district during an anti-Naxal operation. Three years ago, Basant Singh had escaped from police custody in Bihar’s Gaya district.

Sinha said that Basant Singh is a native of Naudiha village in Palamu district and after escaping from police custody, was carrying out his activities in Palamu and Aurangabad in the neighboring state of Bihar. He said that on the basis of intelligence, Basant Singh and four other extremists were arrested from Duruha Hill during an anti-Naxal operation.

The Superintendent of Police said that pistol, revolver, four live cartridges, five mobile phones, two diaries and leaflets of Naxalites were recovered from the extremists. He told that a total of eight Naxal-related cases are registered against Basant Singh.
