Jharkhand by-election: Congress accuses JP Nadda of violating model code of conduct, complaint filed

Politics is hot in Jharkhand by-election, now Congress has given more edge by complaining against BJP President JP Nadda in the Election Commission. The Congress on Monday complained to the Chief Electoral Officer’s office alleging that JP Nadda had campaigned for a by-election candidate at a non-election tribal rally.

Congress spokesperson Rajiv Rajan told media persons after filing the complaint that when the nomination process for the by-election was going on, the BJP had organized a tribal rally and during this time BJP national president Nadda voted in favor of his party’s candidate. Appealed which is a violation of the model code of conduct.

Addressing the ‘Dharti Aaba Birsa Munda Vishwas’ rally at Ranchi’s Morabadi ground on Sunday, BJP leader JP Nadda attacked the JMM-led alliance in the state and also called for the removal of the Soren government from power.

Congress spokesperson Rajiv Rajan said that Congress is a part of the ruling coalition and we want to know that BJP had sought permission from the CEO’s office to organize the event. The BJP has fielded Gangotri Kujur, while the Congress has fielded Shilpi Neha Tirkey, daughter of former MLA Bandhu Tirkey, for the bypoll.

A special CBI court had on March 28 sentenced Tirkey, a former minister in the state government, to three years in jail in a corruption case. The nomination process for the by-election ended on Monday.

Counting of votes on June 26
19 candidates filed nomination papers for the by-election and these documents will be scrutinized on Tuesday. The by-polls will be held on June 23 and the counting of votes will take place on June 26.
