Jharkhand Assembly: Four bills passed amid walkout of BJP MLAs, first tribal university to be built in the state

Four bills were passed in the Jharkhand Assembly on Wednesday amid a walkout by BJP MLAs. One of these bills is about setting up a tribal university. At the same time, BJP MLAs staged a walkout against the suspension of four MLAs of their party.

State Higher Education and Technical Minister Mithilesh Thakur introduced the Pandit Raghunath Murmu Tribal World Bill 2022 which was passed.

The bill was earlier returned by Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais to rectify the discrepancies and mismatch between the Hindi-English versions.

AJSU party MLA Lambodar Mahto first demanded that Videyak be sent to a select committee.

Thakur, however, said that the bill has been prepared keeping in mind the interests of the poor and tribals in the state and it has been introduced after a thorough review.

The House also passed the Jharkhand State University (Amendment) 2022. Thakur said that this would pave the way for the appointment of 3064 professors and lecturers in the state.

Apart from this, two more bills- Jharkhand Taxation Act Bill, 2022 resolution of arrears and Jharkhand Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2022 were passed by the House. The bills were introduced by Finance Minister Rameshwar Oraon.

Responding to the suggestion of the MPs, the Finance Minister said that the Jharkhand Taxation Act 2022 should be sent for scrutiny by a selection committee. He said that with the passage of this bill, the state government will get Rs 500 crore revenue which is pending for a long time.

He said that at present Rs 3690 crore of the state is stuck as arrears. The department has considered one time settlement and for this purpose these bills have been brought.
