Jharkhand: 10 accused of gang-rape by taking husband hostage, imprisoned for 25 years, court’s decision

A court in Jharkhand’s Dumka district has sentenced 10 accused to rigorous imprisonment for 25 years each for gang-raping their husbands by taking them hostage. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 31-31 thousand against all the culprits. The matter is said to be one and a half years old.

The court of Dumka’s Second Additional District and Sessions Judge, Rakesh Kumar Mishra, on 8 December 2020, in the Ghasipur village of Mufassil police station area, on Tuesday, 10 accused were sentenced to 25-25 years of hard labor in the case of gang-rape with the wife by taking her husband hostage. Sentenced to imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs.31-31 thousand. Taking suo motu cognizance of the matter, the National Commission for Women had directed the then Director General of Police of Jharkhand to investigate the matter in a time bound manner and take action.

Public Prosecutor Champa Kumari told that Manoj Mohali, resident of Ghasipur in Dumka Mufassil police station area and another person of the same name, Mangal Mohali alias Mamu, Bodi Lal Mohali, Santosh Hembram, Vikas Mohali, Mithun Tudu alias Mohali, Nunulal Mohali, Ujjwal Mohali and Agias Mohali alias Babu was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment of 25-25 years with fine. He said that in case of non-payment of the fine, all the accused would have to undergo additional imprisonment for two and a half years.
