JEE Main 2024: Check What Is The 75% Eligibility Criterion – News18

The last date to register for JEE Main 2024 is November 30.

The candidates who qualify for admission in the NITs, IIITs and other CFTIs should have secured at least 75 per cent marks in the Class 12 examination.

The National Testing Agency started accepting applications for the Joint Entrance Examinations (JEE) Main 2024 a few days back. Candidates are advised to visit the official website jeemain.nta.ac.in to register themselves if they wish to appear in the exams. The registration deadline for the JEE Main 2024 is November 30. While candidates have begun preparations for the exam, the agency recently released the eligibility criteria for JEE Main 2024 aspirants.

According to the official information brochure, candidates who qualify for admission in the NITs, IIITs and other CFTIs should have secured at least 75 per cent marks in the Class 12 examination or be in the top 20 percentile in the examination conducted by respective Boards. On the other hand, for SC/ST candidates, a score of around 65 per cent in the Class 12 examination is necessary. Notably, the admissions in NITs, IIITs and other CFTIs are based on the JEE Main ranks.

In addition to that, candidates are also required to pass in each of the subjects of the Class 12 examination. It is pertinent to note that the eligibility criterion was waived in the last three editions of the entrance after the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world in 2020. However, it was restored for the 2023 batch.

Last year, a controversy around the 75 per cent eligibility criterion erupted after JEE Main 2023 candidates came out claiming that it was brought back with no prior hint by NTA. They complained that it might pose a problem for several repeaters.

Meanwhile, along with JEE candidates, a few experts, and some Members of Parliament (MPs) also opposed the criteria. Following the backlash against the decision, the government decided to revise the JEE Main 2023 eligibility criteria in which the students who were appearing for the exam were required to score 75 per cent in the Class 12 examination or be in the top 20 percentile candidates of the exam conducted by respective boards.
