J&K: Two Jaish Militants Killed in Encounter in Baramulla; One Civilian Injured

Two militants affiliated with the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror outfit were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, police said. In the encounter, one civilian sustained injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where his condition is stable.

The two terrorists have been identified as Mohd Rafi, a resident of Sopore, and Kaisar Ashraf Dara native of Pulwama. Police said Rafi was twice earlier booked under the stringent Public Safety Act, and that both the militants were involved in terror crimes.

Militant Kaisar Ashraf Dar, the son of a J&K Policeman, was missing since February this year. CNN-News18 had reported at the time how his aghast family wanted him to return amid fears of him joining the militancy.

The encounter began after the security forces, which launched a cordon and search operation in the Bomai area of Sopore town in Baramulla following information about the presence of militants there, turned into a gunfight leading to the death of the militants.

This comes a day after three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Shopian district. The security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in Shopian’s Nagbal following information about the presence of terrorists there. Police said the search operation turned into an encounter, in which the three ultras were gunned down.

The slain terrorists were affiliated with proscribed terror outfit LeT, a police spokesperson said.
