It is not possible to provide CRPF security to Kaustab Bagchi, the Center told the High Court

Lawyer Kausthav Bagchi filed a plea to the High Court for CRPF security. The court wanted to know the opinion of the center in this regard. The Center told the court on Monday that it is not possible to install CRPA in the house of a lawyer and a Congress leader.

On March 4, the police arrested Kaustab Bagchi late at night for allegedly making ugly comments against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He was produced in the Bankshall Court in the morning and got bail on the same day.

Later in the night, Kaustav filed a case in the High Court regarding the police attack and arrest at the house. He drew the judge’s attention to the hyperactivity of the police. With this, the central forces demanded his security. At that time, the court wanted to know from the center, whether it can provide security to the Congress leader or not. The court directed to inform the Center in the next hearing.

In the hearing on Monday, the Center told the court that they will not be able to provide security to Kausthav. Because, Kaustav’s house is far away from the CRPF office. That’s why they can’t provide security.

In its earlier hearing, the court asked the Kolkata Police Commissioner to submit a report. The police commissioner submitted the report to the court on Monday as directed by the court. After listening to both sides, Justice Rajasekhar Mantha said, “Lawyers should discuss among themselves and see if anyone can come up with a solution.” The judge said that this unfortunate debate needs to end.
