ISRO to launch new rocket: 120 ton SSLV will be used to launch small satellite, first launch on 7 August

Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is going to launch the country’s new rocket soon. Its name is Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV). The first launch will take place at 9.18 am on 7 August from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. This rocket will serve to deliver the Earth Observational Satellite (EOS-02) to space.

What is SSLV?

Although ISRO uses GSLV or PSLV to take its satellites to space, but this time SSLV is being used. Actually, this rocket will be useful in launching small satellites. It is 112 feet in length, 6.7 feet in diameter and weighs 120 tons.

With this, satellites of about 500 kg can be sent to the lower orbit of the Earth. On the other hand, PSLV can carry 1,750 kg and GSLV up to 4,000 kg in space.

Delay in testing SSLV

The plan to launch the SSLV into space was made before the outbreak of the corona pandemic, but was delayed due to the lockdown. After this ISRO planned to launch the mission in the first quarter of this year. Also, it took a lot of time to test it.

Features of the EOS-02 Satellite

EOS-02 is a satellite through which India’s new technology such as agriculture, forestry, geology and hydrology will be demonstrated. ISRO has developed this micro satellite. This mission of SSLV is the brainchild of ISRO Chief S Somnath.

Project got Rs 169 crore

The central government has allocated Rs 169 crore to ISRO for this mission. The project consists of three development flights SSLV-D1. SSLV-D2 and SSLV-D3 are being worked on. Nano, micro and small satellites will be launched into space from this rocket.
