The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday claimed to have busted an ISIS terror module in Kerala. This module was in the mood to attack religious places and leaders of certain communities.

An agency spokesperson said a member of the module was arrested from Tamil Nadu. Searches were conducted at four places of the suspected accused in Kerala.

The agency said that based on the intelligence input and investigation, a joint operation was launched with the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). Kerala Police arrested one of the accused. After this action was taken at four places.

The spokesman said three locations in Thrissur and one in Palakkad district of Kerala were raided to bust the ISIS module. The men in the module were carrying out reconnaissance missions and planning terrorist attacks.

On Tuesday, the NIA tracked down one of the accused Ashif alias Maithil Akath Kodayil Ashraf and arrested him from his hideout near Sathyamangalam in Tamil Nadu.

The next day (July 19), searches were conducted at the homes of Ashif as well as three others, identified as Syed Nabeel Ahmed, Shias TS of Thrissur and Rais of Palakkad. Digital devices and incriminating documents were seized during these raids.

Was collecting money for terrorist attacks

The module was engaged in promoting the activities of ISIS and collecting money for terrorist attacks by committing dacoities and other criminal activities.

The agency said that they were planning to carry out terrorist activities and had already carried out recce of some prominent places in the state (Kerala) including places of worship and leaders of certain communities. Its objective was to spread terror and create communal divide in the state.
