iOS 16.3 Update Is Leading To iCloud Backup Problems: Report

The latest iOS update from Apple, iOS 16.3, which was rolled out with the promise of adding more security options and new ways to use emergency SOS service via satellite, among others on supported iPhone models has led to users facing problems with iCloud backup, the media has reported. Some iPhone users, after updating to the latest iOS 16.3 are encountering issues such as syncing with iCloud Drive, Photos and backup upload.

The bug that is causing the issues seems to be related to a lack of two-factor authentication, reports suggest.

According to AppleInsider, in posts to Apple’s support forums and to Reddit, as well as for one reader who contacted the publication, it seems there is an issue for some users trying to interact with iCloud. The instances have been taking place since the update to iOS 16.3, which brought security changes to enable physical security keys to be used to secure accounts along with expanding Advanced Data Protection outside of the US.

The iOS 16.3 software update was made available for the iPhone 8 and newer iPhone models and brought a series of new features and bug fixes for supported iPhone models.

The update comes with support for Security Keys for Apple ID, thus, allowing for physical two-factor authentication for Apple ID logins. A notable feature that the iOS 16.3 brings is “Unity” wallpaper along with support for the newly-launched second-gen Apple HomePod.

The new iOS update has also tweaked the Emergency SOS feature, in a bid to prevent accidental calls. It can be activated by holding down the side button along with the volume up or down button together. However, the call will not be made until the keys are released. There is an option to “Call Quietly” in Emergency SOS. This means that after enabling this option, when a user tries to make an emergency SOS call, their iPhone will not make an alarm sound or start flashing.
