Injured J&K MBBS Student Airlifted From Bangladesh To AIIMS. Victim’s Father Thanks PM Modi

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravinder Raina on Monday said the Centre airlifted an MBBS student, who was undergoing treatment at a Bangladesh hospital after being critically injured in an accident, to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the national capital for special treatment, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported. Shoaib Lone, a resident of Rajouri district, met with an accident along with two of his friends from the college earlier on June 3. One of them died and two others, including Shoaib, were critically injured in the accident.

Raina met Mohmmad Askam Lone, the father of Shoaib — a final-year MBBS student in Dhaka’s Barind Medical College — during his visit to Rajouri district.

“As soon as I came to know about the accident from his father during my visit to Rajouri, I sought help of the PMO. He is in coma. His parents want help,” the news agency quoted Raina as saying in Jammu.

“On PM’s intervention, MBBS student Shoaib Lone evacuated from Dhaka in air ambulance and admitted to AIIMS in New Delhi. The government will provide all help to him,” he added.

The Jammu and Kashmir BJP president further said the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) sought details and Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally called India’s ambassador to Bangladesh to provide all necessary help to the student’s family.

Raina added the envoy visited the injured student in Dhaka’s Ever Care Hospital and reached out to his family in Rajouri.

The Jammu and Kashmir BJP chief thanked Prime Minister Modi for speedy action in the matter.

Narrating his ordeal, Shoaib’s father said the family managed to arrange Rs 10 lakh through contributions but the amount has been spent in his son’s treatment.

“Now we are neither in a position to bear the charges of his treatment in Bangladesh nor to bring him back to India,” he said.

Shoaib’s father, a class-4 employee in the Jammu and Kashmir government, also thanked Prime Minister Modi for the assistance.

“We were facing problems upon reaching there. Faced language barrier and expenses were high,” news agency Asian News International (ANI) quoted Shoaib’s father as saying.

“We got in touch with BJP state president Ravinder Raina who promised us that he would ask PM Modi to bring back our child to India. I thank the PM,” he added.
