A Cheetah helicopter of the Indian Army crashed on Friday in Gurez sector of Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir. One of the two pilots on board the helicopter has died in the accident, while the other pilot is injured. The injured pilot has been taken to the hospital for treatment.

The accident happened in Baraun area near Gujran Nala of Gurez sector. The Baraun area is very close to the Line of Control (LOC).

Army statement
According to the statement issued by the army, the helicopter took off to take the soldiers from the forward post as part of the routine mission. The helicopter lost contact near Baraub’s Gurjan post. After this a search operation was carried out and the crashed helicopter was found in a snowy area near Gujran Nala. The pilot and co-pilot aboard the helicopter were seriously injured.

Both were taken to Army Base Hospital, where co-pilot Major Sankalp Yadav has died. At the same time, the condition of the pilot is stable. The cause of the incident is being investigated. Major Sankalp Yadav, 29, was a resident of Jaipur, Rajasthan. He joined the army in 2015.

Helicopter going to pick up BSF jawans
According to an army official, the helicopter was on its way to pick up ailing BSF jawans near Chorhah. The helicopter was about to land when it met with an accident due to bad weather. A team of security forces was sent to the snowy area for rescue.

Preliminary investigation The reason for the accident was said to be bad weather, at this time there is heavy snowfall in Baraun area. In the crash, the pilot and co-pilot were able to eject from the helicopter.
