India Reports 6,563 Covid Cases In Last 24 Hours. Active Caseload Lowest In 572 Days

New Delhi: There were 6,563 new cases of Covid-19 reported in the country in the last 24 hours. 8,077 people were discharged during the same period whereas 132 people died from the infection, as per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

8,77,055 samples were tested for Coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

The active caseload in India currently stood at 82,267 which was the lowest in 572 days. Active cases were at 0.24 percent which accounted for less than 1 percent of the total cases. The daily positivity rate stood at 0.75 percent which was less than 2 percent for the last 77 days while the weekly positivity rate was 0.60 percent which was less than 1 percent for the last 36 days.

The recovery rate was currently at 98.39 percent which was the highest since March 2020.

15,82,079 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine were inoculated in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative figure up to 1,87,67,20,359. On Sunday, Andaman and Nicobar Island administration said that among all the states and union territories in India, it has become the first one to administer both doses of Covid-19 vaccination to 100 percent eligible population of the island.

Cases of Omicron variant in the country have risen to 153 after Maharashtra reported six new cases while four more cases were detected in Gujarat, as per PTI. The Omicron variant has been detected in 11 states and union territories so far with Maharashtra reporting 54 cases, Delhi (22), Rajasthan (17) and Karnataka (14), Telangana (20), Gujarat (11), Kerala (11), Andhra Pradesh (1), Chandigarh (1), Tamil Nadu (1) and West Bengal (1).

AIIMS chief Dr Randeep Guleria has warned against the rising threat of Omicron variant in the country. “It is better to stay prepared than to get caught off-guard,” he said.
