India reports 51,667 new Covid-19 infections; Active caseload continues to exceed 6 lakh-mark

New Delhi: In the last 24 hours, 51,667 new cases of corona virus have been reported in India while 64,527 infected persons have recovered from the infection. Meanwhile, 1,329 people have succumbed to the infection.

At the same time, 30.79 crore vaccine doses have been given so far under the nationwide vaccination campaign. Of these, 60.73 lakh vaccine doses were given in the last 24 hours.

India’s active caseload stands at over 6 lakh with a total of 6,12,868 active cases.

A total of 2,91,28,267 recoveries have been registered across the country so far.

For the 43rd consecutive day, the number of people recovering daily is more than the daily new cases. The recovery rate is 96.66 per cent while the weekly positivity rate has remained below 5 per cent, which is currently at 3.00 per cent.

The daily positivity rate for 18 consecutive days is 2.98 percent, which is less than 5 percent.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that till June 24, a total of 39,95,68,448 samples were tested. Of these, 17,35,781 samples were tested yesterday.

Health officials said here on Thursday that Maharashtra has crossed the 60 lakh mark, taking it to the fourth position globally.

As of Thursday, Maharashtra has reported a total of 60,07,431 Covid cases, more than France, which has reported 57,62,322 so far, and is at number 4 in the world after the US, India and Brazil. .

Compared to 508 deaths announced on Wednesday, the state reported 556 deaths on Thursday, including 197 new deaths and 359 earlier casualties, taking the state’s total Covid death toll to 119,859, the worst in the country.

The number of fresh cases on Thursday fell below the 10K-level to 9,844, much lower than the record peak of 68,631 reported on April 18, taking the state’s total Covid tally to 60,07,431.

Daily deaths fell to 10 on Thursday from 23 a day earlier, bringing the total death toll in the country’s commercial capital to 15,348.

The state’s fatality rate on Thursday recorded 2 per cent, while the number of active cases stood at 121,767, below the 2 lakh mark.

However, 9,371 fully recovered persons returned home, taking the state’s total tally to 57,62,661, with a recovery rate of 95.93.

Meanwhile, Delhi recorded eight deaths and 109 new cases of coronavirus infection on Thursday, as the city’s positivity rate fell to 0.14 per cent, according to data shared by the health department.

The new deaths have taken the death toll due to the disease in the city to 24,948.

On Wednesday, Delhi recorded 111 Covid-19 cases and seven deaths, while the positivity rate stood at 0.15 per cent.

The city’s infection rate, which reached 36 percent in the last week of April, has now come down to 0.20 percent.

Despite the recent drop in daily cases, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has cautioned that the prospect of a third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic is quite real, adding that his government is preparing on a “war-footing” to deal with it.

Tamil Nadu reported 6,162 fresh coronavirus cases, including three returnees from Andhra Pradesh, pushing the total caseload to 24.49 lakh, while the toll rose to 31,901 with 155 additional deaths.

A medical bulletin on Thursday said 9,046 people had been discharged, taking the total number of recoveries to 23,67,831, leaving 49,845 active infections.

The number of fatalities related to Kovid-19 in the state capital also reached 8,131.

The 28 victims were patients without any co-morbidities or pre-existing disease, including a 26-year-old girl from Krishnagiri who succumbed to Covid-19 pneumonia.
