Srikar Bharat and Shubman Gill put India in a commanding position after Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja starred with the ball to restrict Leicestershire to 244 on Day 2 of their warm-up fixture in Leicester on Friday.

India were 80 for one at the close of play on Day 2, having taken a lead of 82 runs on Friday. Srikar Bharat (31*) and Hanuma Vihari (9*) will resume batting on Day 3. Earlier, Rishabh Pant starred with a fluent 76-run knock before Leicestershire were bowled out for 244 runs.

Pant hit 14 fours and a six as he slammed 76 off 87 balls. Cheteshwar Pujara, meanwhile, was dismissed for a duck by Mohammed Shami. India had earlier declared on their overnight score of 246/8 at stumps on Day 1.

On Day 1, India’s top order couldn’t fire and the big guns Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were dismissed for 25 and 33 respectively. However, Bharat’s half-century and some solid resistance from the lower order helped India recover from 82/5 to 246/8. Notably, Pant, Cheteshwar Pujara, Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna are representing the Leicestershire County Club team in the warm-up game.
