Chopra said, ” I think Bumrah could be rested and Siraj comes in for him.”

This could be India’s way of rotating their bowlers so all their bowlers could get adequate game-time before the World Cup and the bowlers remain match-fit and prepared for the tournament.

Bumrah had taken part in the Asia Cup 2023 and finished the tournament with four wickets from four games. He had missed India’s group-stage fixture against Nepal due to the birth of his child.

Bumrah had just come back after being out of action since August, last year when he picked up a stress fracture in his back when playing against Zimbabwe.

He made his return to international cricket where he captained the Indian side who sent in a second-string team to go against Ireland in a three-match T20I series. He picked up four wickets in that series as well as he looked in decent touch.

Aakash Chopra suggested that Mohammed Siraj could come in place of Bumrah.  Siraj managed to have a clinical performance in the Asia Cup finals where he finished with figures of six wickets for just 21 runs in just seven overs while restricting the Sri Lankan side to a mere 50 runs to exact their revenge after losing to Sri Lanka in the previous edition of the Asia Cup.

India is still looking to finalize their pace combination as they are still figuring out whether to persist with Shardul Thakur and lengthen their batting order or stick with a specialist bowler and strengthen their bowling attack.

The Indian side will go against the Aussies at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore and the match will begin at 1:30 PM (IST)
