Increasing X-Ray Machines For Baggage Checks Eased Congestion At Delhi Airport: Scindia

New Delhi: Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday said increasing the number of X-ray machines for baggage checks to 18 is one of the major reasons for easing the passenger congestion at Terminal 3 of the Delhi airport.

“Within 9 days, @DelhiAirport has installed 5 x-ray machines at the security-check area, taking the total to 18 ATRS/x-ray machines — a major reason behind ease in congestion at T3,” Scindia said in a tweet.

It is to be noted that in the recent weeks, the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in the national capital has been grappling with congestion, due to tourist rush, resulting in long waiting hours for passenger. Several of them have even been complaining about the situation on the social media.

Against this backdrop, all the agencies concerned have been taking action, including stepping up the number of security personnel at the gates in a bid to ease the passenger congestion, amid rising domestic air passenger traffic.

Delhi airport, taking to Twitter, said smooth passenger movement was observed at all terminal entry gates.

“Terminal 3 Update at 21:10 hours. Smooth passenger movement observed at all terminal entry gates with an average waiting time of 1-5 minutes,” the aiport said.

It is to be noted that earlier on Thursday, members of a Parliamentary committee questioned the officials of the Delhi airport operator DIAL (Delhi International Airport Ltd) about congestion at the airport and they assured the panel that the issues will be resolved by the end of this month.
