NITI Aayog member VK Paul has expressed concern in the country amid increasing cases of corona across the world. In a press conference, Dr Paul said that if we look at the scale of Omicron’s infection in Britain and compare it with the population of India, then it can be said that India will have 1.4 million cases daily if the infection spreads. He also said that genome sequencing of every case cannot be done.

He said that Omicron infection is being considered for the increasing case of corona, but everything is not clear about it yet. Research is going on on this and the government is keeping an eye on all the new developments. It is being said that the Omicron strain spreads only mild infections. He highlighted the pace of Omicron infections in Europe and compared it with the population of India.

Genome sequencing of every sample is not possible
Dr. Paul said that genome sequencing is being done in India at number two in the world and it is being increased continuously. He said that it would not be possible to do genome sequencing of every case. It is not a tool to identify disease, but to assess and monitor the epidemic. We can assure that adequate systematic sampling is being done at present.

Cold weather will increase the infection rate
