Doing the ‘live life king size’ right, King Charles is known for his lavish, sometimes eccentric, directions to his staff on a daily basis. In fact, the monarch was referred to as the ‘pampered prince’ by his staff members at Clarence House. Reports suggest that Charles lived a life akin to that of a king throughout his life.
Following the demise of Queen Elizabeth II, Charles acceded to the British throne and was proclaimed the King of the United Kingdom on September 10. With the Queen’s death, there was a shift in the line of succession, with Prince William and Kate Middleton becoming the Prince and Princess of Wales.
As per reports and insights from former workers of the Royal Family, King Charles’s life was nothing short of sumptuous. According to the tabloid, The New York Post, King’s valets were asked to iron his shoelaces and one of them even said they were directed to squeeze out toothpaste from the tube and place it on his brush in the mornings. He is known to be carrying his own toilet seat everywhere he goes, along with Kleenex Velvet toilet paper.

Justifying his stature and perhaps keeping up with it, King Charles reportedly consigned vans filled with possessions to his friend’s houses, if he was to pay a visit to them. In a documentary titled ‘Serving the Royals: Inside the Firm’, Paul Burrell, who had served Queen Elizabeth as a butler, said that King Charles got ‘everything done for him’.
“His pyjamas are pressed every morning, his shoelaces are pressed flat with an iron, the bath plug had to be in a certain position, and the water temperature has to be just tepid,” Paul said.
He mentioned that King Charles had his valets ‘squeeze one inch of toothpaste onto his toothbrush every morning’. Speaking about his eating habits, Paul said that the king preferred a ‘healthier option’.
King Charles’s former staff member, Graham Newbould, said that the monarch preferred homemade bread.
“Wherever the prince goes in the world, the breakfast box goes with him. He has six different types of honey, some special mueslis, his dried fruit and anything that’s a bit special that he is a bit fussy about,” the former royal staff member said. He added that the king insists on cheese and biscuits being heated at a certain temperature, otherwise the British monarch wouldn’t eat them at all.
“The staff keeps a warming pan just to make sure it (biscuit) is not enough for his liking. Since he (King Charles) is particular about everything,” an insider told My London.
Reports suggest that King Charles is a cheese lover and many define him as a fussy eater. In May 2020, amid the Covid lockdown globally, the Clarence House, which was the residence of then Prince Charles, posted one of ‘his favourites’ recipes.
