IIT Delhi Announces New MA Programme in Culture, Society and Thought – News18

Graduates from this master’s program will be eligible for doctoral programmes at IIT Delhi or other doctoral programmes in any institute across the country

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has announced a new master’s course. On March 11, the premier institute announced that the MA Culture, Society, Thought programme will commence from July 2024. IIT Delhi will hold an open house about the above-mentioned programme on March 15. The application process will be open on March 20 and go on until April 4 at IIT Delhi’s PG Applications portal. Graduates from this master’s program will be eligible for doctoral programmes at IIT Delhi or other doctoral programmes in any institute across the country.

Students who maintain the recommended CGPA by the Institute (currently, 8.0) in this MA course can directly apply for the doctoral programme at IIT Delhi. The two-year course will have four semesters.

According to the IIT Delhi’s Department of Humanities and Social Sciences website, the MA Culture, Society, Thought is an interdisciplinary course that will train “students in diverse theoretical and methodological approaches as a way of reflecting on the contemporary world.” The programme will equip students to “apply to jobs in media, publishing, journalism, advocacy, social entrepreneurship organizations, and development consultancy firms.”

IIT Delhi MA Culture, Society, Thought Programme: Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for admission are:

–– Graduates with a BA degree in any discipline with 55 per cent marks or equivalent CGPA.

–– Graduates of all other streams (like B.Tech., B.Sc., B.Com., B.Des., B.Ed.): First division for all other streams of graduation.

–– For SC/ST/PwD category candidates, a minimum performance in the qualifying degree is relaxed by 5 per cent.

–– Graduates of three-year and four-year UG programmes are eligible.

–– B.Tech. Advanced Standing students of IIT Delhi are eligible.

–– Candidates who are in the final year of their academic degrees and expect to complete their course by the third week of July 2024 are eligible.

–– Other than these minimum qualifications, the “department can specify higher short-listing criteria than what is specified here” in future.

IIT Delhi MA Culture, Society, Thought Programme: Admission Process

The admission process will first include a written test and evaluation of the GATE score in any XH subject. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for the interview. The written exam and interview will include “evaluation of analytical abilities; basic numerical and logical reasoning skills; and reading and comprehension.” The written test will take place on May 18 at IIT Delhi, while the online interviews will be held on 27 and 28 May.
