ICC Test Rankings: Ravichandran Ashwin Replaces Jasprit Bumrah As World’s No. 1 Test Bowler

Team India’s Ravichandran Ashwin, the seasoned off-spinner, has risen to the coveted number one rank in the latest ICC men’s Test bowling rankings. This remarkable ascent comes on the heels of Ashwin’s exceptional performances during the five-match Test series against England. Ashwin showcased his spin mastery by claiming a total of 26 wickets throughout IND vs ENG Test series, which included two memorable five-wicket hauls. His stellar contributions were instrumental in guiding India to commanding victories in the final two Tests held in Ranchi and Dharamshala.

Ravichandran Ashwin, playing his 100th test match in Dharamshala (5th Test), picked 9 England wickets, including a five-wicket haul in the second innings. Ashwin’s performance played a pivotal role in India’s resounding win over England by an innings and 64 runs in the fifth and final Test.

Additionally, Ashwin achieved the monumental milestone of 500 Test wickets during the 3rd Test match in Rajkot, thus joining the prestigious club alongside Anil Kumble as only the second Indian bowler to achieve this feat.

Notably, Ashwin replaced premier India pacer Jasprit Bumrah as the number one ranked bowler in ICC Men’s Test rankings for bowlers.

Jasprit Bumrah slipping to number two rank in ICC Test bowling rankings could be attributed to his absence during the middle of the Test series against England, where he was rested from the fourth Test in Ranchi due to ‘workload management’.

Prior to the break, Bumrah had been leading the tally as the highest wicket-taker among Indian bowlers in the series. However, Ravichandran Ashwin capitalized on Bumrah’s absence in Ranchi, thereby reaping the full benefits in the ICC Test rankings.

During this, he occupied the fourth position in terms of scoring the most runs in IND vs ENG Test series.
