Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor To Lead In Karan Johar’s Rom-Com: Report

New Delhi: Karan Johar has been instrumental in bringing star kids to the Hindi film industry in recent years. In keeping with this tradition, Karan Johar will soon bring Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh’s son Ibrahim Ali Khan to the silver screen in a rom-com. The Archies’ debutante Khushi Kapoor will be his opposite lead. An OTT venture supported by Dharma Productions’ digital branch, Dharmatic Entertainment, will produce the film.

According to Pinkvilla, Karan Johar is set to create a romantic comedy that stars Khushi Kapoor and Ibrahim Ali Khan. The ensemble cast has been assembled and the film is now in pre-production. According to a source reported by Pinkvilla, the producers are now in discussions with a prominent OTT provider over the acquisition of streaming rights.

Pinkvilla claims that Shauna Gautam will be directing the unnamed project and production will begin next year. Shauna has worked as an assistant director on Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh’s ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ alongside Khan. In addition, she was an AD on ‘Sanju’, directed by Rajkumar Hirani.

Nevertheless, Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor’s film’s title has not been finalised as yet. “It’s one of those romantic comedies that Hindi Cinema is known for. However, Karan and co. feel that the palette of narrative fits better for the OTT than the big screen. It’s planned and will be executed as an OTT original,” according to the source.

Ibrahim Ali Khan has worked with Dharma Productions before. The Kashmiri thriller ‘Sarzameen’, which features Kajol and Prithviraj Sukumaran, is going to be his first film in Bollywood. The film’s director is Boman Irani’s son, Kayoze.

Regarding Khushi Kapoor’s first film ‘The Archies’, it is available to watch on Netflix. The film also features Yuvraj Menda, Vedang Raina, Suhana Khan, Agastya Nanda and Mihir Ahuja. The movie takes place in India’s Anglo-Indian community and features a fictional town named Riverdale.
