‘I.N.D.I.A Will Fight Back’: Bengal CM Mamata On Mahua Moitra’s Expulsion From Lok Sabha

Mahua Moitra Expelled: West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chairperson Mamata Banerjee rued over the expulsion of TMC MP Mahua Moitra from the Lok Sabha in connection with the ‘cash-for-query’ case. Banerjee accused the BJP of engaging in “vendetta politics”, declaring it an “attack on democracy”. She expressed confidence in the unity of the I.N.D.I.A. bloc after the Opposition staged a walkout of the Lok Sabha following the vote.

Mamata Banerjee questioned the haste in making such a crucial decision. “I don’t understand how the (Parliament) members will go through these 495 pages within half an hour and how all the speakers will take a decision. I congratulate the I.N.D.I.A. alliance for being united, and we will fight back. In this case, Mahua is a victim of the circumstances. I strongly condemn this, and the party completely stands with Mahua,” she affirmed, as per news agency PTI.

“This is vendetta politics of BJP. They killed democracy…. It is injustice. Mahua will win the battle. The people will give justice. They (BJP) will be defeated in the next election,” asserted the West Bengal Chief Minister, as quoted by news agency ANI.

Mahua Moitra’s Expulsion From Lok Sabha Over ‘Cash For Query’ Matter

The expulsion of Mahua Moitra from the Lok Sabha occurred on Friday in connection with the cash-for-query case, following a parliamentary vote. The decision came after the Ethics Committee recommended her expulsion, citing “immoral and indecent conduct.”

Speaker Om Birla announced the expulsion, stating, “This House accepts the conclusions of the Committee that MP Mahua Moitra’s conduct was immoral and indecent as an MP. So, it is not appropriate for her to continue as an MP.”

The Ethics Committee’s recommendation was based on a 495-page report, which detailed allegations of cash-for-query against Moitra. The controversy stemmed from a complaint filed by businessman Darshan Hiranandani, who claimed to have paid Moitra to raise questions in Parliament about the Adani Group. Opposition members, however, criticized the report as a “fixed match,” calling for more time to study its contents.
