‘I Demand Experts Formulate A Strategy Immediately’: Kiccha Sudeep On Cauvery Water Dispute – News18

Actor Darshan Thoogudeepa also voiced his opinion.

Kiccha said he believes that the government which has won with so much consensus would not abandon the people who believe in Kaveri.

For a long time, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have been locked in a long legal battle over the share of the Cauvery River water. The Cauvery Water Management Authority had asked Karnataka to continue releasing 5,000 cusecs of water from Tamil Nadu for another 15 days. A senior official of the Jal Shakti Ministry informed the public about this on Monday.

Now, the popular faces from the Kannada entertainment industry have been expressing their views against the decision on social media. Kiccha Sudeep is among them, the actor took X (formerly known as Twitter) and has demanded the experts formulate a strategy immediately.

The tweet written in Kannada loosely translates to, “Friends, Our Cauvery is our right. I believe that the government which has won with so much consensus will not abandon the people who believe in Kaveri. I demand that the experts formulate a strategy immediately and give justice. I also have my voice in the land-water-language struggle. May Mother Kaveri protect Karunad.”

Before Kiccha Sudeep, actor Darshan Thoogudeepa also voiced his opinion and said that there has been a continuous attempt to get more water by cutting the Kaveri water from Karnataka’s share leading to water scarcity in the state. “At this time, there is a lot of damage to the irrigated area, so let’s consider all the statistics and get justice as soon as possible,” he wrote in Kannada.

Amid the tension between the two states over the Cauvery water dispute, the Supreme Court on Thursday refused to intervene either in favour of Karnataka or Tamil Nadu instead it relied on the combined expertise of the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) and the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) to manage the water-sharing between the two neighbouring states.

The court also noted that CWRC and CWMA had been regularly meeting every 15 days to review the water flow with due regard to the distress faced by both States. The three-judge bench said that fixing the daily water flow from Karnataka to Tamil Nadu at 5,000 cusecs was neither “extraneous” nor “irrelevant”.

The dispute over the Cauvery River water has persisted for decades, originating in 1974 when Karnataka, as the upper riparian state, began diverting water without Tamil Nadu’s consent. The case was upheld in the apex court after the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT) finalised the water-sharing formula in 2007.
