Turkish company Roketsan announced on August 18 that it had successfully test-fired the long-range cruise missile version of its ATMACA anti-ship missile. It released a video showing the missile being prepared and fired from a mobile launcher at a test facility reportedly on the Sinop peninsula in Turkey. Turkey has unveiled the ATMACA UM at a time when there’s a lot of chatter about a US-origin missile with a similar name – ATACMS. The US supplied the powerful missile system to Ukraine amid the war with Russia which started more than two years ago. Since successfully invading Russia’s Kursk over two weeks ago, Ukraine has reportedly been seeking permission from the US to use ATACMS inside the Russian territory.Will the Kursk see a showdown between ATACMS and ATMACA UM?
